Ba Vigo is a literal translation meaning ‘go to Vigo’. The city of Vigo is located in the North West of Spain and is one of the largest fishing ports in Europe. Vigo is nestled in rich farm land and is only a short distance from the prestigious wine region known as the ‘Green’ Coast.
Specialising in modern Spanish cuisine, Ba Vigo is a stylish eatery positioned on the dunes of Maroochydore.
Featuring a clean, contemporary fit-out by local architecture firm Bark Design, diners here will enjoy an elegant dining experience while enjoying a sophisticated feast of tapas and larger a la carte fare, created by owner and Chef Nick Belton and wife Louise.
Nick cleverly pre-empted the current Spanish obsession, having opened in 2004, and his contemporary menu - tapas, pizzas, entrees and mains - remains every bit as fresh as the sea air.
Whole tiger prawns are coated in paprika then blackened on the grill, served on a bed of silky cucumber ribbons and roast garlic aioli.
An oval pizza is more unconventional, topped with thin lamb steaks, tomato chunks, manchego, rocket and a dollop of tangy eggplant jam.
North African flavours are again to the fore in chilli-crusted spatchcock, rich in turmeric, with pumpkin, mint, hazelnut and an uplifting pomegranate molasses.
To finish, chocolate and hazelnut ravioli is a whimsical take on churros, with crisp, golden batter coated in a smoky burnt orange caramel 'sauce'.
Worth a mention is the extensive wine list, boasting an impressive selection of local and imported beers, a masterful array of local and Spanish wines, and a personal favourite to finish off a flavoursome dining experience – a glass of Pedro Ximenez Spanish sherry – Ole!
