Picture this: after a long hike, what could be better than a juicy post-hike orange, or grilling up some onions to accompany your BBQ feast? Every camping adventure needs an esky brimming with the freshest fruits and veggies. Stop by The Esk Fruit Shop or Aland's Fruit & Veggies Kilcoy where you’ll find a treasure trove of locally sourced produce just waiting to be packed into your cooler.

Somerset Dam General Store

If you’re camped at Lake Somerset, the last thing you want is to trek back into town for food supplies. That’s where the Somerset Dam General Store comes in. Offering a variety of takeaway meals, convenience items and refreshing drinks, this nearby gem ensures you can maximise your time on the water.

Picnic Society

Looking to enjoy a variety of fresh treats, with zero assembly? The Picnic Society in Toogoolawah has you covered. Alongside a range of handmade pastries, sweet treats, and savoury morsels, the Picnic Society will create a personalised grazing box filled with a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, dips, meat and something sweet. All you need to do is pick up the grazing box on your way to your campsite.

Classic Campfire Recipe

Once you have your supplies it’s time to start cooking, what better to go with the classic Aussie snags than a baked potato? Whether you use a BBQ or a campfire this is sure to be a hit.

  1. Wash the potatoes well in cold water, prick each all over with the tip of a knife and rub them all over with olive oil. Rub salt all over the potatoes; this will help crisp the skin. Tightly wrap each potato in aluminium foil.
  2. Place the potatoes on the grill grate over red coals (medium heat) and cook about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes, turning halfway through. When cooked the tip of the knife will go straight through the potato.
  3. Combine your toppings in a small bowl. We recommend spring onions, chopped fresh herbs and sour cream.
  4. Cut potatoes open, season with salt and pepper, add butter and your toppings.

So, all that’s left to do now is pack your tent, write your shopping list, hop in the car and visit Somerset Region for your next camping adventure.
